In 2014 Kim Zwarts was invited to participate in the 'artist in residence' program of Contretype, centre d'art contemporain pour la photographie in Brussels.

The program, since 1997, is limited to the geographical frame of the city of Brussels. Kim Zwarts limited his principal theme to only one structure, even to one space.

In the summer and fall of 2014, all 53 photographs in the series 'Palais' were made in the peristylium of the Palais de Justice, a late 19th century structure by architect Joseph Poelaert.
